Welcome to DERMPAV’s Photographic Section.  Here you will get an overview of DERMPAV’s offerings to photographers.

It is not DERMPAV’s intention to badger photographers for donations for keeping its Diesel Electric Rail Motors operable in mainline heritage service. DERMPAV has instead decided to offer two photographic packs, these are explained below.

DERMPAV offers the information pack in remuneration for a defined donation. DERMPAV hopes the line side and motorcading photographers will support the photographic packs as the funds raised through the sale of these will assist DERMPAV’s ongoing aims and objectives thereby contributing to keeping the Diesel Electric Rail Motors in active mainline heritage service.

DERMPAV wish to support and encourage this part of the hobby.  DERMPAV is mindful when motorcading the photographer’s automobile operates over the Vic Roads network and DERMPAV promote safe driving habits, DERMPAV can no way be held responsible for any unsafe act on the Vic roads system, as time is given to enable the photographer to reach the change over locations comfortably.

The photographic packs can be obtained by downloading a copy of the tour brochure from the Tours section on this website and filling out the necessary details and returning it with the necessary funds to DERMPAV.

The Photographic Packs.

The photographic packs are an option for those that are wanting to obtain a line side photo of the DERM or are following the DERM. These packs offer a greater degree of train running knowledge and therefore allow better photographic opportunities and greater flexibility to the photographer.

Information Pack

The information pack will be available for all tours operated by DERMPAV.

This pack provides the photographer with a timetable for the tour being operated, and a SMS message service which will be provided to a nominated service number. These SMS messages will advise tour running information with any delays. At the time this Information Pack is purchased the photographer will nominate the name of the contact person along with the contact number that they wish to be kept updated.

Any special notification requests should be made at the time this pack is purchased.

The cost of the Information Pack is $20.00

Follow and Ride Pack

This pack provides the opportunity for a group of photographers to follow the DERM in a motor car whilst being kept updated on the DERM’s progress. In this pack, will be a single transferable ticket, a timetable for the tour being operated, and the ability to be provided with SMS messages advising how the rail motor is operating and advising of any delays. At the time the Follow and Ride Pack is purchased the photographer will nominate the names of the people that may be using the ticket and any mobile telephone numbers that they wish to be kept updated.

The cost of the Follow and Ride pack will be the price of an adult ticket for the tour being operated.

The single transferable ticket:

When the Follow and Ride pack is available the DERMPAV tour will have four nominated boarding locations. At these locations a photographer has the option of changing from the motor car to the railmotor. This enables a photographer to transfer to the railmotor to experience riding on the DERM for a portion of the tour and then being able to transfer back to his motor vehicle for photographic opportunities. The photographer can choose which sections of the tour to ride or join his motor car to get line side coverage, the photographer therefore is given greater flexibility.

Departing on time:

Timetabling is an important part of the DERMPAV tour ensuring we are able to fit in with the rest of the trains operating over the mainline system. Therefore the time waiting at changeover locations is critical. It is important that a photographer that is intending to change over from the railmotor to their motor car or vice versa is there on time. The rail motor tour will depart on the next leg of its journey at the departure time.

The timetable:

The timetable is an S circular that outlines the advised time the operator has suggested that the railmotor will operate to. This can be kept in the motor car to enable strategic photographic locations to be reached in good time prior to the rail motors passing.

SMS messages:

DERMPAV acknowledges that on the mainline system delays are sometimes inevitable.  DERMPAV will provide via this media, tour running information including delays and when our tour is fifteen minutes from a change over point to the nominated contact number provided in the Photographic Pack. To provide this service a mobile phone number or like number that will accept electronic messages must be provided.

Photo competition:

DERMPAV recognises that the motorcaders are in a position to obtain photographs that are not available to the train travellers, to further promote this aspect of the hobby. DERMPAV are happy to receive photographs from motorcaders for each tour DERMPAV operates.  The best of these will be judged by DERMPAV’s committee and the winning entry will be posted on our web site acknowledging the photographer, location and date the photo was taken.  Each tours winning entry will be entered into the yearly competition, the winner will win a free ticket (which can be used as a motorcaders pack) and an invite to our yearly break up.  So pick out your best photo’s and send them in!!!
